Mission
In order to have the ‘voice’ of the Catholic Native Peoples living within our Archdiocese heard, this Center provides the opportunity for Cardinal George and our local Church, as is possible, to listen to and respond to the needs of this minority in our midst. About 1% of the Chicago Land area is comprised of Native Peoples representing over 130 tribes. The Diaspora of Native Peoples living off reservations find in this Center a sense of their history and culture. And the Church is able to offer these fellow Catholics and others resources for evangelization, catechesis and worship. In addition, as an agency in the Department of Evangelization, Catechesis, and Worship, this Center is a resource to the other 17 Office Directors who might enhance a ‘Native Peoples’ consciousness in their respective missions.
