Mission
The Office for Catechesis and Youth Ministry (OFCYM) is the agency through which Cardinal George directs the catechetical activities of the Archdiocese of Chicago. OFCYM promotes lifelong catechesis through the formation and certification of catechists and catechetical leaders, adult faith formation, elementary-family catechesis, and youth ministry. OFCYM serves the parishes and catechetical leaders. In addition, as an agency in the Department of Evangelization, Catechesis, and Worship, this Office assists the other 17 Office Directors with the expectations and requirements of catechetical ministry.
The dynamic between personal encounter, knowledge, and Christian witness is integral to the diakonia of truth which the Church exercises in the midst of humanity. God’s revelation offers every generation the opportunity to discover the ultimate truth about its own life and
the goal of history.
