Mission

The Catholic Missions Office coordinates mission awareness in the Archdiocese of Chicago with the guidance of Cardinal George. Its mission includes education about and fund raising for the missions throughout the world through the work of the Propagation of the Faith, Missionary Cooperative Appeal, Holy Childhood Association and the Society of St. Peter Apostle. The Office provides speakers for schools and parishes. In addition, as an agency in the Department of Evangelization, Catechesis, and Worship, this Office is a resource to the other 17 Office Directors with any efforts that enhance “mission-consciousness” and the missions around the world.

In Christ, the definitive Word of God’s revelation, God made himself known in the fullest possible way. He has revealed to mankind who he is. This definitive self-revelation of God is the fundamental reason why the Church is missionary by her very nature. She cannot do other than proclaim the Gospel, that is, the fullness of the truth which God has enabled us to know about himself (RM 5).
