Offices :: Office of Councils
Mission
This Office, with the guidance of Cardinal George, administrates the governance
processes of four consultative bodies and a Parish Evangelization program.
1. Archdiocesan Parish Pastoral Councils
Parish Pastoral Councils are required in every parish; this Office assists parishes in the formation and continuing development of this governance body. The Office also assists Parish Pastoral Council members to become more effective in their ministry through leadership training, consultation, retreats and other programs.
2. Archdiocesan Pastoral Council (APC): Steven Kubiczky, Current Chair, and
Mary Ann Rosso, Current Vice-Chair
The APC serves as a consultative body to Cardinal George, assisting him in the governance of the Archdiocese. The 56 members listen to the issues and concerns presented by the Cardinal, parish delegates in a deanery meeting, or an agency of the Archdiocese. Recommendations for action are then offered. (Cf: Canon 443; Canons 511:514)
3. Archdiocesan Presbyteral Council (APC): Fr. Ed Mikolajczyk, Current Chair
The Presbyteral Council serves as a consultative body to Cardinal George representing the presbyterate, i.e. the priests serving in and for the Archdiocese of Chicago. This required Council (Canons 495:502) assists Cardinal George in the governance of the diocese discussing the more serious (gravis maior) Archdiocesan concerns. About 2/3 of the members are freely elected, others are ex-officio or appointed by Cardinal George.
4. Archdiocesan Women’s Committee (AWC): Jan Peters, Current Chair, and
Elizabeth Boccio-Hunt, Current Vice-Chair
The Archdiocesan Women’s Committee is an adjunct Committee of the Archdiocesan Pastoral Council which meets separately and serves as a consultative body to Cardinal George. The AWC assists the Cardinal in his pastoral task in the area of women's concerns and works to make visible the equality and dignity of all people. Its members represent the wide diversity of women in the Archdiocese of Chicago.
5. Christ Renews His Parish
This program of evangelization and catechesis assists parishes in formation of lay teams centered in Christ and committed to the renewal of individuals for the renewal of the parish.
