Offices :: Divine Worship
Mission
With the guidance of Cardinal George, the mission of the Office for Divine Worship implements the Second Vatican Council’s liturgical vision from the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy. The Office assists the parishes of the Archdiocese of Chicago by developing and deepening the liturgical life through support, education and formation of the liturgical ministers and other pastoral leaders. In addition, as an agency in the Department of Evangelization, Catechesis, and Worship, this Office assists the other 17 Office Directors with the expectations and requirements of Catholic worship.
Today there is a need to rediscover that Jesus Christ is not just a private conviction or an abstract idea, but a real person, whose becoming part of human history is capable of renewing the life of very man and woman. Hence the Eucharist, as the source and summit of the Church’s life and mission, must be translated into spirituality, into a life lived ‘according to the Spirit’.
