Mission
SPRED, Special Religous Development, with the guidance of Cardinal George, works with parishes of the Archdiocese of Chicago to affirm the dignity of the child, adolescent, or adult with developmental disabilities or learning problems. SPRED prepares the person with disabilities for full integration into parish life and worship through the development of parish-based SPRED faith communities. In addition, as an agency in the Department of Evangelization, Catechesis, and Worship, this Office assists the other 17 Office Directors with ongoing awareness of the strengths and needs of persons with disabilities and their families; SPRED also keeps all our individual efforts friendly to those with disabilities.
