Description:

Large, active, urban parish with a school and extensive social services seeks a Director of Development. St. Pius V is a primarily Hispanic parish with a long history of community leadership and engagement, supported by a staff of more than 30. Strongly qualified candidates will have at least three years of experience in fundraising with success in individual major gifts and grant writing, outstanding verbal and written communication skills, and extensive knowledge of the local philanthropic community. The Director will report to the Pastor-Executive Director and will supervise other development and communications/marketing staff within the parish and school. The Director will participate in larger parish and school staff activities. Bilingual English-Spanish skills are strongly desired and openness to Hispanic cultures is necessary. In collaboration with staff, creates and implements a development and marketing plan for the parish and school. Develops new and ongoing relationships with major individual and institutional donors in support of the mission of the parish and school. Identifies and qualifies potential major gift donors and leads activities to increase donor base and annual giving. Facilitates the planning for and carrying out of the annual fall fundraising banquet. Oversees the management of all grant requests and reporting, and meeting of grant deadlines. Works collaboratively with the school principal and program directors (after-school services, religious education, domestic violence and family ministries, and other parish groups) to prioritize needs and identify new funding. Oversees four mailings for the parish and one for the school each year, including the processing of donor thank you letters. Participates in regular staff and director meetings.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree required. Minimum 3 years of major gifts leadership and grants management experience. Significant familiarity with the area’s funding community; highly desirable. Progressive experience in successful development programs and knowledge of “best practices” in development. Ability to relate well and work effectively with multiple constituencies and audiences. Excellent verbal and written skills. Bilingual English-Spanish preferred. Knowledge of MS-Office is required and database systems is preferred. Candidate must be a team player committed to developing and working within a collaborative environment.
