Description:
The Faith Formation Program Assistant is responsible for aiding in the facilitation of a multi-program comprehensive ministry to, with, and for youth and families at Holy Cross Parish to empower young people and families to live as disciples of Jesus Christ, draw them into responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the Catholic Church, and foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person and family. The Program Assistant works directly under the Director of Faith Formation for Children and Youth (DFF) to help plan, coordinate, and execute various elements of the comprehensive faith formation program. Specifically, the Program Assistant will support the DFF in overseeing the GIFT Pre-K through 5th grade program and EDGE Junior High Ministry (6-8th grade), and may also be called upon as necessary to support the Director in high school ministry programs. Assist the DFF in empowering young people and families to live as disciples of Jesus Christ, and fostering the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person and family. Serve along with the DFF as an advocate on behalf of young people and families within the parish and community. We are looking for someone ready to collaborate as a team and work together to evangelize the community. Assist in recruiting and coordinating catechists for Pre-K through 5th grade (GIFT program), core team members for 6-8th grade (EDGE program), and facilitators for 9th/10th grade Confirmation preparation (Loaves program) Be present at weekly GIFT program classes, and some EDGE/Loaves sessions as determined in collaboration with the DFF. Support the DFF through administrative responsibilities associated with all faith formation programs (GIFT, EDGE, and Loaves). In collaboration with the DFF, promote the various elements of the faith formation program through marketing (bulletin articles, emails and e-newsletters, etc.) and assist with publicizing faith formation events, programs, and services. Be willing to be present when possible at school functions, youth activities, and in the community (sporting events, coffee shops, etc.) in order to be a presence to the young people of the parish and the greater community
Possess an ongoing awareness of Archdiocesan policies and guidelines, especially as concerns Safe Environment. Safeguard all sensitive information. Attend major parish events and liturgies when necessary, and assist the Director of Faith Formation in other tasks as necessary to support the various programs in this ministry. Requirements:
•A degree in, or progress towards a degree in Theology, Catechesis, or a related field. •Previous experience working with youth, especially as a catechist or religious education/youth ministry volunteer. •Demonstrated skills and interest in ministerial work.
•Professed and practicing Catholic.
•Familiarity with the New Evangelization and a passion for proclaiming the love of God to young people and families.
•Confidentiality, integrity, honesty.
•Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal. •Strong organization skills; ability to anticipate needs, plan, and meet deadlines.
•Ability to work with/without supervision but keeping supervisor and others informed. •Team-player who is willing and able to think creatively about how to evangelize and meet needs.
•A servant-leader, able to be loving and charitable even in challenging situations. •Computer skills, including Microsoft Office, email, and social networking tools are required.
•Graphic design and/or marketing skills are a plus. •Ability to lead music for praise and worship is a plus.
•Operating computer and other technological equipment. •Regular evening and weekend activities (Faith Formation classes are on Sundays and Tuesdays.
