Description:

The St. Nicholas Director of Music Ministry is responsible for planning, conducting, coordinating, and evaluating a bi-lingual/multicultural music ministry. The Director of Music Ministry provides liturgical music at scheduled Masses on weekends and Holy Days (including the school Mass), at parish sacramental celebrations (First Eucharist, Confirmation, and Reconciliation) and at occasional seasonal liturgies. The Director of Music ministry helps to plan appropriate music for parish funerals and is available as pianist/cantor as requested. The Director of Music Ministry coordinates and/or works with the adult choirs (English and Spanish), parish children’s choir, cantors, and instrumentalists. The Director of Music Ministry assists the parish school with weekly school Masses in cooperation with the St. Mary’s parish music director. The Director of Music Ministry also provides music for parish weddings and quinceañeras as requested. Compensation for these services is extra. The Director of Music Ministry reports to the Pastor on a regular basis. The Director of Music Ministry has primary responsibility for hiring and dismissing of substitute musicians, and accompanists. Responsibilities of the Director of Music Ministry include, but are not limited to, the following: Liturgy: Directs the planning, coordination, operation, and evaluation of a comprehensive parish Music Ministry. Coordinates parish music program (weekly and seasonal) in collaboration with the pastor and the parish liturgy committee. Serves as the principal coordinator of the parish adult choirs (English and Spanish), and the parish children’s choir. Ensures appropriate quality music for the Sunday liturgies, Holy Day Masses and other significant liturgical celebrations. Provides music for parish funerals as requested. Provides music for parish celebrations of First Eucharist, Confirmation, and Reconciliation in collaboration with appropriate individuals and groups. Provides music for special parish liturgical celebrations such as Our Lady of Guadalupe, St. Nicholas Night and school Masses. Provides music for parish weddings and quinceañeras as requested and is available for the planning and coordination of music for these celebrations. (Fees for these services are determined by the Music Director and Pastor and are extra compensation.) Incorporates a broad range of musical styles into worship services. Coordinates substitute directors, cantors, and accompanists as needed. Organizes and supervises the recruitment of volunteer music ministers. Supervises the work of all music ministers. Prepares an annual budget in consultation with the pastor and parish business manager. Plans, purchases, and/or prepares worship aids/song booklets for all liturgies in collaboration with the parish business manager and office support staff. Selects, obtains, and maintains a variety of liturgical music. Provides for the care, maintenance and repair of the parish’s musical instruments. Manages the parish music copyright and licensing programs. Motivates full, active participation in the parish music ministry and worship. Provides leadership for the musical formation of parishioners through appropriate media such as the bulletin, verbal announcements, liturgies, workshops, and seminars. Provides music for special projects, ministries, and other church-related activities in collaboration with appropriate individuals or groups. Attends and participates in regular staff meetings. Requirements:

Bachelors Degree or higher with focus in music. Proficiency in Spanish and English. Training in choral direction. Basic formation in Catholic liturgy (and incorporation of music into worship). Ability to play piano. Knowledge of and respect for Catholic Church teaching, mission and values. Ability to work collaboratively with the parish staff and the parish liturgy committee. Experience in developing a parish music program through all liturgical seasons.
