Description:
This is a part-time position (available immediately) which should not exceed 20 hours per week, unless there is a critical need to do so. The normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday 6:00am-10:00am. Maintenance works in cooperation with other employees and reports to the Business Manager. Needs to be familiar with several aspects of maintenance and repair procedures, including plumbing, electrical, machinery, carpentry, and other maintenance functions. Responsible for the routine maintenance, upkeep and safety of the parish complex, both inside and out. The main overall job responsibilities are as follows (this list is broad in scope and is not exhaustive of all duties the job includes): Do a daily walk-through of the buildings and grounds to ensure everything is in working condition and is attended to. Check all buildings for needed general maintenance, safety and security. Attend to any problems in regards to the above. Address and correct daily problems such as plumbing, electrical, security and heating needs, notifying Business Manager when professional service is required.
Maintain boiler and air conditioning systems to your ability. This especially includes making sure chemicals for boilers are working and at proper levels, following a schedule of daily/weekly/monthly maintenance checks.
Communicate with business manager regarding all maintenance/capital issues, especially those requiring outside contractors (boilers, roof, etc.) Do other “handyman” projects as needed and requested (e.g., painting, installing a shelf, assembling office furniture, install and remove window A/C units, maintain exterior and interior lighting, smoke detectors, etc.).
Do special inspections of the grounds as needed, following the Archdiocese Maintenance Manual, to ensure that all buildings and equipment are in working condition and follow through the with repairs, cleaning or whatever is needed to keep everything in working condition (including, but not limited to: changing batteries in smoke detectors, cleaning gutters of rectory and garages, boilers, air conditioning system, concrete, ceilings, walls, etc.)
Pick up deliveries and orders when needed (e.g., food deliveries, Sam’s pickups, etc.) Receive & store maintenance supplies. Oversee service people and contractors (e.g., boiler repair, plumbers, exterminators).
Other tasks as needed or requested when within your job responsibilities.
Requirements:
High school graduate, plus technical education or equivalent of a minimum 3 years documented experience in a maintenance related field. Trade license or technical college preferred.
Must have a functional understanding of electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems. Knowledge of relevant OSHA, Building, Fire, Life, and Safety Codes. Ability and knowledge of gauges, measurements, and proper use of tools. Must be highly motivated, well-organized, have good problem solving skills, and be able to coordinate multiple and changing priorities.
Must be available for on-site emergencies 24/7. Pay is commensurate with experience. The person must be able to lift/push at least 50 lbs., have a valid driver’s license and daily access to a car/van, and climb ladders and stairs as necessary. The ideal candidate would be bilingual (English and Spanish).
