Description:

The Maintenance Engineer works independently and reports to the Parish Business Manager and takes direction from the School Principal. The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for the operation and maintenance of all heating/cooling systems and boilers at the school and convent, and for the preventative maintenance of all air intake and exhaust systems. The maintenance engineer responds to calls for emergency repairs and provides access to buildings and facilities as needed. The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for: Execute repair and maintenance work orders, as directed by the school office; Organize, prioritize and execute work orders in an efficiently and timely manner; Identify conflicts on work priority with Business Manager/School Principal; Safeguard and store tools, materials, supplies and other company resources required to execute work; Maintain working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, painting and carpentry; Interact with employees/students in a professional and respectful manner; Report maintenance issues with suggestions for repair/replacement to Business Manager. Perform and coordinate all janitorial tasks for department in a timely manner. Respond to repair and maintenance emergencies. Maintain storage and work areas in a neat, safe, and secure condition. Perform a variety of repair and maintenance tasks including, but not limited to carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, painting, HVAC work and masonry. Conduct inspections and perform tasks related to preventive maintenance needs. Record and report completed repairs and communicate items that require further attention. Maintain an inventory of all supply needs placing orders as required. Perform repairs to building appliances and fixtures; change locks; replace floor tile; unstop clogged drains; repair or replace plumbing fixtures; patch holes in walls; replace faucet washers; spot paint interiors; assist church maintenance engineer as needed, operate lawn/snow care equipment; clean unit interiors; perform miscellaneous carpentry repairs; perform minor masonry duties, maintain supplies and records, supervise and oversee school janitorial employees.

Requirements:

Knowledge in all building repair trades, purchasing procedures and practices, work safety requirements, janitorial painting and repair procedures. Minimum of 5-7 years experience in building maintenance with supervisory experience, or experience in a related building trade’s field consisting of repairs, refurbishing, heating, and maintenance administration. High school graduate; some college preferred. This position is physically demanding. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs/ladders or balance; stoop; kneel; crouch; or crawl; and talk; or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move more than 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and depth perception.
