I am Deacon John Lucas, Executive Director of Amate House, father of four children and the grandfather of 12 beautiful grandchildren. Amate House is a young adult volunteer program serving the needs of many in various capacities throughout the Archdiocese of Chicago. This year we have 36 Volunteers who live in community in three different areas of the City of Chicago. They work at many different not-for-profit sites in varying capacities such as teaching, mentoring, social service agencies and health agencies. The diversification of the sites is truly amazing. Amate House will contribute over 64,000 hours of service with a value of over $1,200,000.00 for one year of service from 36 Volunteers. One of the more important aspects of the Amate House experience is the life-changing transformation of our Volunteers. Through Community, Service, Social Justice, Stewardship and Faith Formation each Volunteer takes a journey that changes their life and experiences growth in maturity, knowledge, understanding, compassion and the power of God’s love.
