Thursday, February 24, 2011, marks the launch of the canonical phase of exploration into the life, virtues and intercessory power of Father Augustus Tolton {1854-1897}. At St James Chapel of the Quigley Pastoral Center, 2pm, amidst sung Midday Prayer of the Liturgy of the Hours, Cardinal Francis George and officials of the Archdiocese will assemble with a gathering of the faithful for the announcement of appointments, the taking of the oath of service and the signing of decrees associated with examining evidence into Tolton's life. This First Session is mandated by norms for processing causes for sainthood issued by the Congregation for Causes of Saints at the Vatican. Subsequent Sessions of the inquiry phase will summon witnesses for testimony and examine reports from individuals regarding spiritual and physical favors received through intercessory prayer in Tolton's name.
