The Chicago Catechetical Conference Offers Something for Everyone!

When was the last time that you, as an adult Catholic, made time to learn more about your faith, to explore your role as a Catholic in today’s complex world?  When was the last time you celebrated Mass with Catholics from all over the Archdiocese of Chicago?  The Chicago Catechetical Conference, November 5-6 could be just the place for you!

This year’s theme is, “Let Us Go Rejoicing to the House of the Lord.” As the leaves on the trees burst into brilliant colors, we are caught up in the beauty of nature!  We are grateful to our Creator God for the seasons of nature!  As Catholics, we go rejoicing to the house of the Lord with hearts filled with gratitude.

These glorious fall colors also signal a time of change. Nature provides us with a visible example of our changing world. People today are well aware of the many changes taking place in our world. Life is different.  Life has become very complicated.  People can feel frustrated and confused. What is our role as Catholics in this fast-paced world?

The Chicago Catechetical Conference will begin with an Opening Mass celebrated by Cardinal George at 8:00 a.m.  Friday, November 5, 2010.  The keynote address, “Living the Mass:  How We Go Rejoicing From the House of the Lord” will be presented by Rev. Dom Grassi and Joe Paprocki, D. Min.  This presentation will lead participants into inspiring breakout sessions offered in English and Spanish throughout the day. “Forming a Spiritual Child in a Secular World,”  “Sports Done Right,”  “The Spirituality of Youth: What’s Church Got To Do With It?” and “Will Our Teens Have Faith?” will be of special interest to parents, coaches and teachers. Saturday begins with Mass followed by keynotes, in English and Spanish.  Michelle González, Ph.D. will present, “Nuestra Iglesia:  La Iglesia Americana” and Catherine, Dooley, O.P. will present, “ No One Comes to Faith Alone.”   Both keynotes will stress the importance of being part of a strong faith community and will also challenge us to support one another.  Later in the afternoon, Rev. Tony Bury will present a session in Polish entitled, “Być polskim katolikiem w USA.”

Breakout sessions such as “The American Church,”  “Hispanic Immigrants:  A Blessing for Our Church,” and the “Revised Roman Missal: Teaching the New Mass and Prayers,” will help us to explore changes we are experiencing in today’s Church.

So, what do you think?  Will you set aside Friday, November 5th or Saturday, November 6th to grow in your faith, to learn more about the Catholic Church, or to better understand your role as a Catholic in the world today?  We welcome you at the Chicago Catechetical Conference!
