Cardinal George Releases Advent Message
Cardinal George has released a message for Advent. Here is the text:
Dear Friends:
The four weeks of Advent help us to live now as if time had already come to an end. In liturgical time, the past is brought into the present, and the present contains the promised future. Gods kingdom is now and it is yet to come; always in the kingdom, however, is the peace that is the sign of Gods presence among his people. Peace is not the result of conquest by arms, but of conversion of hearts. It is a grace.
During this Advent season - and in a particular way on December 14, a day of fasting designated by our Holy Father, the Pope, to coincide with the last Friday of the Muslim feast of Ramadan -- let us pray that we might obtain the great gift of peace which is the sign of the Lords presence, and let us follow Christ in faith so that we might build a world where His peace reigns.

- The Lord works in marvelous ways.
Im Cardinal Francis George. During this past Lent, I invited you to join me in making a Millennium journey to discover again who Jesus Christ is. The response has been tremendously encouraging!
Thousands of people in more than 300 parishes are coming together to pray and share their faith. The archdiocesan website has been visited by more people than ever before.
The pastors are telling me stories about people who have been inspired to accept Christs challenge: to bring the Gospel into our neighborhoods and into our culture.
But theres much to be done and much that you might do. I invite you to call a nearby parish and join me and all who are making this life-changing journey into the new millennium. Thank you.
