Statement of Francis Cardinal George, OMI
on the Appointment of the Most Rev. Daniel Conlon
to the Diocese of Joliet
May 17, 2011
Along with the priests, deacons, religious women and men and lay faithful of the Diocese of Joliet and the Archdiocese of Chicago, I am grateful to Pope Benedict XVI for his appointing Bishop Daniel Conlon to be Bishop of Joliet, our neighboring diocese.
Bishop Conlon comes from the Archdiocese of Cincinnati and the Diocese of Steubenville, where his pastoral skills, his learning and his personal dedication have earned him the respect and love of many. We welcome him to our State and to the Province of Chicago. I look forward to working with him in the years to come.
I also want to thank most sincerely Bishop Joseph Siegel for his service as Administrator of the Joliet Diocese these past months. He served well and won the confidence and gratitude of his own diocese and of all the bishops of Illinois.
