Everything Is Gift
As we “count our blessings” in celebration of Thanksgiving Day, our faith reminds us to forget to count, to lose count. We are grateful not for any particular thing or action or benefit but for everything, because our faith tells us that everything is gift.
When everything is gift, including the ability to be grateful, then all we can do is say “thanks.” There is nothing to be negotiated, nothing to be singled out, nothing to be “more” grateful for. It is all gift, which is another way of saying everything is grace.
