The pre-Christmas season fills up with invitations to various parties and receptions.  The Gospels are also full of invitations, but these are to meet Jesus.

Those inviting others to meet Jesus ask them to “come and see.”  Come to share the acquaintance the inviter has begun to develop with Jesus; see someone who can’t quite be placed or understood but who invites trust.

The receptions of this season remind us that we can’t celebrate Christmas alone.  We have to invite others to come and see the child whom the Father sends to invite us all to eternal life.
