Rejoicing in God's Forgiveness

When we hear or read in the Gospels the call to repentance, what happens?  The reason why the Gospel is good news is because it highlights the bad news that God’s grace alone can correct and heal.  The call to repentance brings us face to face with our sinfulness.  Some dismiss these reflections as guilt-ridden, but taking responsibility for our conduct and therefore rejoicing in God’s forgiveness is to experience repentance.  That’s the internal dynamic of Lent, leading us to self-sacrifice with Christ crucified and to overwhelming joy in his resurrection and the promise of ours.
