• Historically, Native Americans have the highest record of service per capita when compared to other ethnic groups, with over 40,000 serving in both World War II and Vietnam alone.
• 27% of American Indians live below the poverty level, double the general population.
• Unemployment ranges from 35% to 85% and average annual income may be as low as $3,700.
• American Indians are five times as likely to die from tuberculosis, and twice as likely to die of diabetes.
