Chicago, IL (December 1, 2006)—From 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 9, the Archdiocese of Chicago Office for Peace and Justice will host an Advent Africa Summit at St. Dorothy School, 7740 South Eberhart Avenue, Chicago.
“One of the goals of this summit is to bring Catholics together to educate and discuss with them all that is happening on the African continent today,” said Adrienne Curry, Director of Catholic Relief Services in the Archdiocese’s Office of Peace and Justice.
The day will feature speakers, including writer, broadcaster and newspaper columnist Nick Clooney, who will address the ongoing conflict in the Darfur region of the Sudan. Clooney, who spent five days in Darfur this past April, along with his actor/son George, has written and made numerous public appaerances on behalf of this conflict since his return to the United States.
Also planned for the Advent Africa Summit is a workshop on a possible global solidarity partnership between the US and Zambia and an African fair trade goods market.
