EIGHTH ANNUAL ECUMENICAL PRAYER SERVICE
Highlights Week of Prayer for Christian Unity
Chicago, IL ( January 10, 2008 ) - The eighth annual Chicagoland Ecumenical Prayer Service will be held at Christ Community Church of God in Christ, 1151 E. 170 th St. in South Holland at 4 p.m. on Sunday, January 20.
Church leaders from 20 denominations will participate in the liturgy, which is sponsored by the Ecumenical Millennium Committee, a consortium of 17 Chicago-area churches that joined together in 1999 to pray and prepare for the third Christian millennium. Representing the Archdiocese of Chicago will be Most Rev. Timothy J. Lyne, Retired Auxiliary Bishop of Chicago. Rev. Dr. David D. Daniels III, professor of church history at McCormick Theological Seminary, will preach on the 2008 theme, “Pray Without Ceasing.”
This liturgical service marks both the 2008 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, which runs from January 18 to January 25, and 100 years of prayer by the Society of the Atonement for Christian Unity during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, initially known as the Christian Unity Octave.
