CARDINAL GEORGE AND SIX AUXILIARY BISHOPS
TO CELEBRATE WORLD YOUTH DAY 2008 MASS
Chicago-area Catholics of all Ages Invited to Attend
CHICAGO, IL (June 10, 2008) – Catholics from across Cook and Lake counties are invited to attend aspecial World Youth Day 2008 Mass and outdoor concert on Wednesday, June 25, at 6 p.m. at St. John of the Cross Parish, 5005 S. Wolf Rd. in west-suburban Western Springs. Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I., Archbishop of Chicago, will concelebrate the Mass with auxiliary bishops: Most Rev. George Rassas, Most Rev. Francis Kane, Most Rev. John Manz, Most Rev. Thomas Paprocki, Most Rev. Gustavo Garcia-Siller, and Most Rev. Joseph Perry.
During Mass, Cardinal George will bless and send forth more than 100 Archdiocesan youth and young adults who will travel to Sydney, Australia July 15-20 for World Youth Day 2008, and those celebrating World Youth Day Chicago-style at St. Hyacinth Basilica, 3636 W. Wolfram St., Chicago, on Sunday, July 19.
Following Mass, a light supper will be served and a free outdoor concert, featuring contemporary musicians John Angotti and Jorge Rivera will be held on the parish grounds. Angotti performed with Placido Domingo and American mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves during Pope Benedict XVI’s first U.S. Papal Mass in April at W ashington D.C.’s Nationals Park. Rivera, the Hispanic Young Adult Ministry Coordinator for the Archdiocese of Chicago, has performed across Latin America, and recently gave a concert in Cali, Colombia to raise funds to build homes for Cali’s homeless families. He will soon release his third CD.
