Chicago, IL (November 5, 2009) – His Eminence Francis Cardinal Arinze, retired Nigerian Archbishop and Prefect Emeritus of the Congregation of Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, will deliver the keynote address at Educating Minds, Inspiring Hearts, the Seventh Annual Chastity Education Initiative Benefit Dinner, on Sunday, November 22, at Drury Lane, 100 Drury Lane in Oakbrook Terrace.  Since it was initiated in 2003, the Chastity Education Initiative has served over 120,000 teens, young adults, parents, and teachers in schools and parishes throughout Cook and Lake counties.

Cardinal Arinze, who is also the former president of the Vatican Council for Interreligious Dialogue, was asked to deliver the keynote address at the Annual Benefit Dinner by Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I., Archbishop of Chicago, who will also attend the event and make brief remarks.  Cardinal Arinze will share his thoughts about how the struggles in Africa are related to every Catholic’s call to live out the virtue of chastity.  “Chastity is a challenge in every continent and country”, said Arinze.  “It is a conquest that always demands self-mastery.”

“The Chastity Education Initiative is the largest program of its kind in Illinois, and transforms the lives of more than 20,000 teens and young adults in the Chicago area annually,” according to Mary-Louise Kurey, Respect Life Director.

Educating Minds, Inspiring Hearts begins with a 4:30 p.m. reception followed by dinner at 5:30 p.m.  The annual event will raise funds in support of programs that empower teens and young adults to embrace chastity and other healthy decisions.  Individual tickets are $50 for teens and $75 for adults.  For more information, contact the Respect Life Office at 312-534-5355, email or visit
