New Interactive Website for Catholic Parents Launched

Chicago, IL (July 8, 2013) – The focus of the Year of Strong Catholic Parents will be to foster deeper connections with parents, particularly when they present their children for sacraments.

The Archdiocese of Chicago’s Strategic Pastoral Plan: Reflect Christ’s Light, spans five years from 2011 to 2016.The themed years began in July 2011 with the Year of Teens and Young Adults followed by The Year of Sunday Mass in 2012.  The Year of Strong Catholic Parents will be celebrated now through June 2014, followed by the Year of the Sacraments until June 2015.
Archdiocesan parishes in Cook and Lake counties have been actively engaged in implementing the Strategic Pastoral Plan in the way that is most fitting to their community, with Archdiocesan agencies providing support and resources.  The Plan’s purpose is to more deeply incorporate baptized Catholics into the life of the Catholic Church.

The Year of Strong Catholic Parents will be highlighted by weekly parish bulletin inserts, written and produced in English, Spanish and Polish by Loyola Press.  Raising Faith Filled Kids - One Word at a Time, are short, thoughtful reflections intended to help grow strong, Catholic parents.

A new initiative of the Year of Strong Catholic Parents is the comprehensive website,, launched to help provide resources for parents preparing their children for Baptism, Communion and/or Confirmation.  The Preparing Children for the Sacraments section engages parents in practical ways to deepen their child’s understanding of the Sacraments.

Among other features of the Catholic Parents Chicago website are Book of the Month, Passages for Parents, Helpful Hints, Ask Your Question and Parent to Parent Wisdom where parents can share ideas, prayers or reflections about helping their children to better understand and prepare for receiving the Sacraments.
