WINNERS OF VIDEO CONTEST FOR CATHOLIC TEENS ANNOUNCED
Prizes Totaling $17,000 Awarded in Year of Strong Catholic Parents – Be a Digital Disciple Contest

Chicago, IL (February 26, 2014) – The Archdiocese of Chicago has announced the winning names of the Catholic teens and their parish affiliations who participated in the video contest conducted as part of the ongoing emphasis on the Year of Strong Catholic Parents.  All Catholic high school students from Archdiocesan parishes in Cook and Lake Counties were invited to show witness to their faith by creating an original, two-minute video about the importance of parents passing on the Catholic faith to the next generation.

Contest entrants were asked to participate in a small-group reflection process called “Handing on the Faith” create and produce a two-minute video, show the video to other teens and gather feedback and submit the completed entry form and DVD. Thirty-four films created by 117 teens representing over 12 parishes were submitted.

Winners of the contest are: First place, $5,000: “Passing on the Faith” by youth from St. Francis de Sales Parish in Lake Zurich; Second place, $2,500: “Send It On” by youth from St. Odilo Parish in Berwyn; and Third place, $1,000: “Because of Our Parents” by youth from St. Constance Parish in Chicago.  A matching award will also be given to the Catholic parish or Catholic school designated by the winners.

Most Rev. Francis J. Kane, Auxiliary Bishop of Chicago, presented the awards to the youth during Parish Leadership Day, on February 22, at Guerin College Preparatory High School in River Grove.  The video contest was co-sponsored by the Archdiocese of Chicago, Mercy Home for Boys and Girls and ACTA: Foundation for Adult Catechetical Teaching Aids.
