Chicago, IL (July 11, 2005) -- Rev. Joseph LeVoy, the pastor emeritus of Our Lady of the Mount Catholic Parish in Cicero who also served at several other western suburban Catholic parishes, died Saturday, July 9, after experiencing a heart attack at St. Benedict Home in Niles. He was 76 years old. At the time of his death, Fr. LeVoy had been a resident of St. Benedict Home for nearly six years.

A native of Chicago’s south side, Fr. LeVoy attended the former St. John Nepomecene Catholic School. He graduated from Quigley Preparatory Seminary and the University of St. Mary of the Lake, Mundelein. Fr. LeVoy was ordained a priest in 1954.

After 1966, Fr. LeVoy spent the remainder of his priestly life serving Catholics in Cook County’s western suburbs: he served as an assistant pastor at St. Bernardine Catholic Parish in Forest Park (1966-73) and at Sacred Heart Catholic Parish in Melrose Park (1973-80), before becoming an associate pastor at St. Cyprian Catholic Parish in River Grove (1980-87). In 1987, Fr. LeVoy was named pastor of Our Lady of the Mount Catholic Parish in Cicero, and he served there for 12 years until he retired from active priestly ministry in late 1998. Fr. LeVoy continued to live at Our Lady of the Mount Catholic Parish as a resident priest until he moved in late 1999 to St. Benedict Home in Niles.

Visitation for Fr. LeVoy will take place on Wednesday, July 13, from 2 to 9 p.m., at Svec & Sons Funeral Home, 6227 W. Cermak Ave., Cicero. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Fr.
