ARCHDIOCESAN PRIEST, REV. GERY W. STEFANSKI, DIES
Former Chaplain at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston
Chicago, IL (December 28, 2011) – Fr. Gery W. Stefanski, died at his home on Wednesday, December 21, after a lengthy illness. He was 58 years old.
Fr. Stefanski was born in Chicago and attended St. Casimir Catholic School. He graduated from Quigley South Preparatory Seminary, Niles College of Loyola University and from the University of St. Mary of the Lake / Mundelein Seminary. John Cardinal Cody ordained Fr. Stefanski on May 9, 1979.
From 1979 to 1997, Fr. Stefanski served as associate pastor at a number of Archdiocesan parishes including St. Mary Parish in Evanston, St. Mary Star of the Sea Parish in Chicago, St. Luke Parish in River Forest and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Chicago.
From 1984, Fr. Stefanski also served as Associate Director for the Archdiocesan Health Program for Priests and Religious, was an Adjunct Professor at the University of St. Mary of the Lake / Mundelein Seminary, and for a time, served as Chaplain at Saint Francis Hospital / Resurrection Health Care, in Evanston.
Visitation for Fr. Stefanski will take place from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 29, at Szykowny Funeral Home, 4901 South Archer Avenue in Chicago. Most Rev. George J. Rassas, Auxiliary Bishop of Chicago, will be the main celebrant at a funeral Mass for Fr. Stefanski at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 30, at St. Pancratius Church, 4025 South Sacramento Avenue, Chicago.
Interment is private. Fr. Stefanski is survived by his mother, Jane, and a brother, Gregory.
