Most Reverend John R. Manz, auxiliary bishop of Chicago, will preside over the Mass for Life on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020 at 4 p.m.
Chicago, IL (January 7, 2020) – The Archdiocese of Chicago will participate in a series of local events throughout January commemorating the March for Life, an annual pro-life gathering in Washington, D.C., occurring on the anniversary of the 1973 Roe v. Wade court decision legalizing abortion. The archdiocese’s Respect Life Ministry will host Masses and prayer vigils in the archdiocese promoting the dignity and sanctity of human life from conception to natural death.

The Mass will celebrate Pope Francis’ declaration of Tolton as “Venerable,” the first African American priest to receive this designation
Chicago, IL (Oct. 7, 2019) – Cardinal Blase J. Cupich, archbishop of Chicago, will be the main celebrant at a Mass of Thanksgiving honoring Venerable Rev. August Tolton at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 14, 2019 at St. Philip Neri Church, 2132 E. 72nd St., Chicago. The Mass will celebrate Pope Francis’ June 11, 2019 declaration of Tolton as “Venerable.” He is the first African American priest to receive this designation, a step toward possible sainthood.

Cupich, archbishop of Chicago, will ordain 23 permanent and transitional deacons at 10 a.m., on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Holy Name Cathedral, 735 North State Street, Chicago. The newly ordained deacons will be assigned to parishes in: Buffalo Grove, Chicago, Des Plaines, Gurnee, Libertyville, Midlothian, Mundelein, Palos Hills, Park Ridge, Round Lake, Lake Villa, Oak Forest, Tinley Park, and Wauconda.

Cardinal Blase J. Cupich to Ordain Three Auxiliary Bishops for the Archdiocese of Chicago Today, Monday, September 17, 2018 at Holy Name Cathedral

The three new auxiliary bishops are Mark A. Bartosic, Robert G. Casey and Ronald A. Hicks
Chicago, IL (September 17, 2018) – Cardinal Blase J. Cupich, archbishop of Chicago, will ordain three auxiliary bishops – Mark A. Bartosic, Robert G. Casey and Ronald A. Hicks – at 2 p.m. today, Monday, September 17, 2018 at Holy Name Cathedral, 735 North State Street, Chicago. Cupich will serve as principal consecrator and main celebrant of the Mass. Co-consecrators of the three new bishops will be Auxiliary Bishops Francis J. Kane and George J. Rassas. Archbishop Christophe Pierre, the apostolic nuncio to the United States, will present the mandates from the Holy See at the Ordination Mass, which will be concelebrated by 26 bishops and 200 priests. Also attending will be deacons, members of religious orders, seminarians and honored guests from the ecumenical and interreligious community.
