The Archdiocese of Chicago to Participate in Local Respect Life Events throughout January

Most Reverend John R. Manz, auxiliary bishop of Chicago, will preside over the Mass for Life on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020 at 4 p.m.

Chicago, IL (Jan. 7, 2020) – The Archdiocese of Chicago will participate in a series of local events throughout January commemorating the March for Life, an annual pro-life gathering in Washington, D.C., occurring on the anniversary of the 1973 Roe v. Wade court decision legalizing abortion. The archdiocese’s Respect Life Ministry will host Masses and prayer vigils in the archdiocese promoting the dignity and sanctity of human life from conception to natural death.

Local activities will begin at 8 a.m., on Saturday, Jan. 11 with a Youth Rally at the Great Hall in the Congress Hotel, 520 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago, followed by the March for Life Chicago rally from 1 – 3 p.m. at Daley Plaza, 50 W. Washington St., Chicago. The day’s events will culminate with the Mass for Life at 4 p.m. at the Great Hall in the Congress Hotel.

“The protection of human life and the promotion of human dignity are equally sacred for the born and unborn, the abandoned, the impoverished, the disabled, the ailing and the dying,” said Cardinal Blase J. Cupich, archbishop of Chicago. “Every human life from conception to natural death is holy and should be protected and loved.”

Chicago-area middle and high school students will gather at the Youth Rally to participate in activities promoting the well-being and protection of all human life and offering prayers for vulnerable populations, including the elderly, people with disabilities and those affected by violence. Musicians Greg and Lizzy Boudreaux will be special guests at the Youth Rally.

Cupich will speak at the March for Life rally before participants begin their march from Daley Plaza through the Loop to the Congress Hotel. The march is an annual rally of civic, community, religious leaders and lay people from across the Midwest celebrating the sanctity of life. Clergy and lay people from across the Archdiocese of Chicago are invited to participate in the Mass for Life, which concludes the day’s activities. Most Reverend John R. Manz, auxiliary bishop of Chicago, will be the main celebrant of the Mass.

The archdiocese’s Respect Life Ministry promotes the dignity and protection of human life through programs, education, pastoral care and advocacy. Programs focus on many topics, including protection of the unborn, euthanasia and assisted suicide.
