Archdiocese of Chicago to Hold Special Masses and Activities to Celebrate All Souls' Day, Day of the Dead, on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019

Chicago, IL (October 31, 2019) – Parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Chicago will hold special Masses and activities in observance of All Souls' Day, also known as Day of the Dead, on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019. The following is a list of selected Masses and activities:

St. Agnes of Bohemia Parish

2651 S. Central Park Ave., Chicago

A Mass for the Day of the Dead will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 11 a.m. followed by the inauguration of a Peace Mural on the corner of 27th St.and Central Park Ave., and a street procession with the Blessed Sacrament from 12 to 1:30 p.m. Also, a peace prayer and moment of healing and fellowship will be held in the St. Agnes School gymnasium from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Parishioners from Assumption, Epiphany, Good Shepherd, Our Lady of Tepeyac and St. Roman Parishes will participate in the event. This activity is sponsored by Padres Angeles and Imago Dei, organizations that offer support and accompaniment to families in the Little Village community area.

 

St. Bede the Venerable Parish

Families are invited to prepare their own altar of the dead on parish grounds. Masses for the Day of the Dead will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. followed by the blessing and celebration of the altars in the church courtyard.

 

Immaculate Conception Parish

Bi-lingual Masses in celebration of the Day of the Dead will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. An altar of the dead will be available for viewing throughout the day in the sanctuary. 

 

Misión San Juan Diego

A Mass in commemoration for the Day of the Dead will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 5 p.m. and a mock cemetery with crosses displaying the names of loved ones will be available for viewing in the front lawn of the parish.

 

St. Mary of the Lake

A Mass for the Day of the Dead on Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. in Spanish. This will be the first year the Latino community will have its altar inside the church. People are invited to bring the photos of their loved ones throughout the month of November.

 

St. Pius V Parish

A Mass in commemoration for the Day of the Dead will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 9 a.m., and an altar of the dead will be available for viewing throughout the day in the sanctuary. 

 

St. Procopius Parish

A bi-lingual Mass for the Day of the Dead will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. Tombstones will be assembled in the parish courtyard from 2 to 5 p.m.followed by a blessing of the tombstones at 6 p.m.

 

Catholic Cemeteries

All 45 Catholic cemeteries in the Archdiocese of Chicago, located throughout Cook and Lake Counties, will offer extended hours, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., in observance of All Saints Day, Friday, Nov. 1 and All Souls' Day, Saturday, Nov. 2.

All locations will also offer a rosary and prayer service on Cemetery Sunday, Nov. 3, 2019 at 2 p.m. as a way for families and friends to come together and reflect on the passing of loved ones and the influence they had on their lives.
