Cardinal Blase J. Cupich, Archbishop of Chicago to Offer Remarks at the University of St. Mary of the Lake / Mundelein Seminary’s 30th Annual Evening of Tribute on Thursday, April 20 at the Grand Sheraton Hotel in Chicago

Rev. Esequiel Sanchez, Rector of the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe and Jennifer Corliss Reid, Pastoral Associate and Parish Leadership Trainer, to be Honored

Chicago (April 20, 2023) Cardinal Blase J. Cupich, Archbishop of Chicago will offer remarks at the University of St. Mary of the Lake / Mundelein Seminary’s 30th annual Evening of Tribute on Thursday, April 20 at the Grand Sheraton Hotel, 301 East North Water St. in Chicago. Alison Rosati, evening news co-Anchor for WMAQ-TV will be the evenings MC. The program is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

Each year, the Catholic community gathers in gratitude for the work of Mundelein Seminary and its mission of forming parish priests for the global Church. This year’s guests of honor will include the Very Rev. Esequiel Sanchez, Rector of the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Des Plaines and Jennifer Corliss Reid, Pastoral Associate and Parish Leadership Trainer.

The Rev. Esequiel Sanchez, rector of the Shrine since 2016, will receive the As Those Who Serve Award for his contributions to ministry and promoting the Catholic faith. Jennifer Corliss Reid, who serves at St. Moses the Black Church in Chicago, will receive the Gloria Christi Award for being a lay Catholic whose life exemplifies the teachings of Jesus Christ through her life and community.

A 1995 graduate of the seminary, Fr. Sanchez ministered in numerous roles in the Archdiocese before accepting the appointment as Rector of the Shrine from Cardinal Blase Cupich. In addition to serving as a parish for many Catholics, the Shrine also is a pilgrimage site for more than 400,000 people during the annual feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe on December 12. Sanchez is a Fellow of the Leadership Greater Chicago program and received specialized training in Advanced Pastoral Leadership through Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and the University of St. Mary of the Lake (USML). He also has earned the Illinois Secretary of State Humanitarian Award for community service.

A graduate of the USML’s Lay Ecclesial Ministry Formation Program, Reid has supported seminarian formation in addition to her parish community at St. Moses the Black. She has welcomed and mentored seminarians through the seminary’s Tolton Teaching Parish Program and served on its steering committee when the program was accredited in 2022. A Chicago native and graduate of Catholic Theological Union, Reid has facilitated surveys and focus groups by meeting with parishioners and identifying their needs. During the Church’s “Year of St. Joseph” in 2021, Reid contributed a vision and presentation on the saint titled, “St. Joseph: A Tender and Loving Father.”
