Archdiocese of Chicago Appoints Rev. Jeremiah Boland as Interim Vicar for Vicariate I

Pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish to Assume New Role December 23, 2024

Chicago (Dec. 12, 2024) – Cardinal Blase J. Cupich has appointed Rev. Jeremiah Boland as interim vicar for Vicariate I, effective Dec. 23, 2024. Boland, who has served as pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish (OLPH) in Glenview since 2014, will succeed Archbishop-designate Jeffrey Grob who will be installed as Archbishop of Milwaukee on Jan. 14, 2025.

Boland is widely recognized for his pastoral care and dynamic leadership and dedication to the archdiocese. Ordained in 1981, he has served in several key roles throughout his 43-year ministry, including pastoral assignments at St. James Parish in Arlington Heights, and Mary, Seat of Wisdom Parish in Park Ridge, Holy Cross Parish in Deerfield, Holy Family Parish on Roosevelt Road in Chicago and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in Glenview. As he steps into this new role, he will continue his pastoral responsibilities at OLPH, bringing his characteristic energy and commitment to both the parish and Vicariate I.

Boland contributed significantly to the archdiocese through administrative leadership, serving as the Archbishop’s Delegate for International Priests, where he oversaw the placement and integration of clergy from around the world. He also served as executive secretary of the diocesan priests’ placement system, ensuring effective clergy assignments.

Born and raised in St. Gall Parish on Chicago’s South Side, Boland comes from a deeply rooted Irish-Catholic family and is one of five brothers, including Msgr. Michael Boland, of Catholic Charities, USA.
