Archdiocese of Chicago Provides Updates on the 290 Corridor and Archer Midway West Renew My Church Groupings

As part of the Archdiocese of Chicago’s revitalization initiative, Renew My Church, the leadership of parishes in the 290 Corridor and Archer Midway West groupings have been meeting to discuss the future church, parish and school structures for their respective areas. They submitted their feedback to the Archdiocese of Chicago and the following decisions have been approved.

290 Corridor Renew My Church Grouping

The 290 Corridor Renew My Church grouping, includes:

  • Sacred Heart Parish and School (Melrose Park)
  • St. Eulalia Parish (Maywood)
  • St. Domitilla Parish (Hillside)
  • St. Simeon Parish (Bellwood)

Cardinal Blase J. Cupich, archbishop of Chicago, the archdiocese’s auxiliary bishops and the archdiocese’s Presbyteral Council met and, based on the Archdiocesan Commission’s recommendation and other considerations, the Cardinal made the following decisions regarding the grouping’s structure.

Sacred Heart Parish and St. Eulalia Parish will unite to form one new parish with both churches remaining active worship sites of the new parish. Sacred Heart School will continue in its current structure as a ministry of the new parish.

St. Domitilla Parish and St. Simeon Parish will unite to form one new parish. St. Domitilla will serve as the church for the newly formed parish. St. Simeon Church will close no later than June 30, 2020.

Over the next few months, the archdiocese will work with the faith communities of each parish to ensure an orderly and smooth transition to the new structures and the archdiocese’s Priest Placement Board will work with the communities to identify pastors to lead the new parishes.

Archer Midway West Renew My Church Grouping

The Archer Midway West Renew My Church grouping, includes the following parishes and schools, all of which are located in Chicago;

  • Our Lady of the Snows Parish and School
  • St. Camillus Parish
  • St. Daniel the Prophet Parish and School
  • St. Jane de Chantal Parish and School

Cardinal Cupich, the archdiocese’s auxiliary bishops and the archdiocese’s Presbyteral Council met and, based on the Archdiocesan Commission’s recommendation and other considerations, the Cardinal made the following decisions regarding the grouping’s structure.

St. Daniel the Prophet Parish continues in its current canonical structure as an individual parish. Our Lady of the Snows Parish continues in its current canonical structure as an individual parish.

St. Jane de Chantal Parish and St. Camillus Parish will unite to form a new parish, effective July 1, 2019. St. Jane de Chantal will serve as the church of the new parish. St. Camillus Church will close no later than June 30, 2020. All schools in the grouping continue in their current structures, subject to maintaining enrollment and financial sustainability.

Over the next few months, the archdiocese’s Priest Placement Board will work with the communities of St. Jane de Chantal and St. Camillus to identify a pastor to lead the new parish.
