Statement of Cardinal Blase J. Cupich, archbishop of Chicago, on the West Rogers Park shooting of a Jewish man walking to a synagogue

Oct. 30, 2024

On Saturday, a Jewish person was shot while walking to a synagogue in West Rogers Park. This act of violence has deeply shaken the local Jewish community. I stand with them and offer my support at this difficult time.

As we await further details of this shooting, it grieves me that I again need to state that violence against one’s neighbor must be condemned and has no home here. May we come to recognize and respect our common humanity and join in upholding our inherent right to freely and peacefully worship.
