At the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, 1100 North River Road in Des Plaines, the overnight festivities in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe begin with an opening Mass on Tuesday, December 11, at 6 p.m., followed by Masses throughout the night and into the next day, concluding with a Mass, at 7 p.m., on Wednesday, December 12. A complete schedule of Masses can be found in English and Spanish at www.santuarioguadalupe.org/en and www.santuarioguadalupe.org/es. All Masses, with the exception of the 12 a.m. Mass, will be celebrated in the new St. Joseph Chapel. The 12 a.m. Mass will be held at the outdoor plaza. The lighting of the traditional “Antorcha Guadalupana” or “Guadalupe Torch” will occur when Pilgrims, representing dozens of parishes throughout the Archdiocese, bring torches to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and then proceed through numerous suburbs and Chicago neighborhoods to their respective parishes. Upon arriving at their parish, torch bearers will place the torch near an image of Our Lady of Guadalupe and the “mañanitas” will be sung, followed by Mass at approximately 5 a.m.
