Archdiocese of Chicago Announces the Names of Parishes Created through its Renew My Church Initiative
Chicago, IL (May 13, 2018) – The Archdiocese of Chicago announced today the names of four parishes created through its Renew My Church initiative. The new parish names, which were announced during Mass celebrations this weekend, were selected by, and voted on, by parishioners. The church sites will retain their consecrated names.
The new parish names are as follows:
- St. Philomena, Maternity B.V.M., and St. Francis of Assisi Parishes (all in Chicago) will unite to form San José Sánchez del Río Parish, retaining the three churches as active worship sites of the new parish.
- St. Celestine (Elmwood Park) and St. Cyprian (River Grove) Parishes will unite to form St. Mother Theodore Guerin Parish, retaining both churches as active worship sites of the new parish.
- Sacred Heart (Winnetka) and St. Philip the Apostle (Northfield) Parishes will unite to form Divine Mercy Parish, retaining both churches as active worship sites of the new parish.
- St. Bede (Ingleside) and St. Peter (Antioch) Parishes will unite to form Our Lady of the Lakes Parish, retaining both churches as active worship sites of the new parish.

Jason Malave, the Cardinal’s Delegate for Renew My Church. “Throughout history, when God bestows a new name on someone it is always as part of a new mission. These parishes are embarking on the mission of Renew My Church: make disciples, build community and inspire witness to strengthen and grow our faith in new, creative ways.”
