St. Agnes of Bohemia Parish to Hold Street Masses for Peace in Chicago’s Little Village Neighborhood

Street Mass program marks its 17th year of praying for an end to violence

Chicago, IL (June 29, 2018) St. Agnes of Bohemia Catholic Church, located at 2651 S. Central Park Ave. in Chicago, will hold several street masses throughout the month of July in an effort to bring the Gospel message of peace and hope to the streets of the Little Village neighborhood.

“As Cardinal Cupich said about preventing violence, ‘Just because we can’t do everything doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do something’,” said Fr. Don Nevins, Pastor of St. Agnes of Bohemia Parish. “These Masses are an opportunity to pray for the end to violence and for resolve that there will be a continued push for peace.”

Now in the street Mass program’s 17th year, dozens of parish volunteers will go door to door the day before the outdoor street Masses with fliers inviting neighbors to participate. During these visits, volunteers typically encounter people new to the neighborhood as well as longer-term residents who may not be aware of the parish’s services.

Street Mass Schedule is as follows:

July 3 – on Millard Avenue between 30th and 31st street.

July 10 – on Drake Avenue between 27th and 28th street.

July 12 – on Homan Avenue between 26th and 27th street.

July 17 – on Christiana Avenue between 24th and 25th street.

July 19 – on Drake Avenue between 24th and 25th street.

The outdoor Masses will be celebrated in the middle of the street with the streets on either end temporarily blocked from the passage of cars. Participants are invited to bring their own folding chairs.
