Archdiocese of Chicago Announces the Names of Parishes Created through its Renew My Church Initiative

The churches will retain their consecrated names

Chicago, IL (September 4, 2019) – The Archdiocese of Chicago announced the names of six parishes created through its Renew My Church initiative. Parishioners proposed and voted on the new parish names. Cardinal Blase J. Cupich, archbishop of Chicago, reviewed the parishioners’ input and affirmed the final name. The churches of the new parishes will retain their consecrated names.

The new parish names are as follows:

  • St. Joseph and St. Francis Xavier Parishes (both located in Wilmette) united to form Saints Joseph and Francis Xavier Parish.
  • St. Ita and St. Thomas of Canterbury Parishes (both located in Chicago) united to form Saints Ita and Thomas of Canterbury Parish.
  • St. Barbara and St. Therese Chinese Parishes (both located in Chicago) united to form St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta Parish.
  • Our Lady of Fatima Parish and St. Pancratius Parish (both located in Chicago) united to form Our Lady of Fatima and St. Pancratius Parish.
  • Our Lady of Loretto (Hometown) and St. Germaine (Oak Lawn) Parishes united to form Our Lady at St. Germaine Parish.
  • St. Jane de Chantal and St. Camillus Parishes (both located in Chicago) united to form St. Faustina Kowalska Parish.

“The adoption of new names marks an important step in this renewal journey,” said Rev. Jason Malave, the cardinal’s delegate for Renew My Church.
