Archdiocese of Chicago Participates in the Global 10 Hail Marys for Pope Francis Campaign

Effort marks the 10th anniversary of Pope Francis’ election to the Papacy by calling on each Catholic to pray 10 Hail Marys

Chicago (Feb. 21, 2023) – Cardinal Blase J. Cupich, archbishop of Chicago, today called on the people of the Archdiocese of Chicago to take part in a global effort to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Pope Francis’ election to the papacy by praying the Hail Mary 10 times. They can register their participation on the campaign by lighting a digital “candle” on https://www.decimus-annus.org/site/index, a website constructed by the Vatican’s Dicastery for Communication.

“From the first day of his papacy, when Pope Francis speaks to the faithful he asks that we remember to pray for him,” said Cardinal Cupich. “He has spent the 10 years of his pontificate preaching the Gospel of love and mercy in a world deeply in need of both. Let us respond as he has asked, with prayers.”

Building on its history of evangelization through media, the archdiocese has issued a call for prayers in its parishes, schools, televised Masses and social media. Its goal is to light as many candles as possible and show Chicago’s appreciation to God for the gift of the Holy Father.
