Archdiocesan Priest, Rev. Anthony Adducci, Dies

Fr. Adducci was Most Recently Chaplain at St. Joseph Hospital in Chicago

Chicago, IL (October 4, 2018) – Rev. Anthony Adducci, ordination class of 1976, passed away on Sunday, September 30, 2018. Fr. Adducci retired in 2016 after serving most recently as chaplain at St. Joseph Hospital in Chicago. He was 67 years old.

Born on Nov. 2, 1950, in Chicago, Fr. Adducci attended St. Anthony of Padua School and Quigley South Preparatory Seminary, both in Chicago. He graduated with a Master of Divinity degree from the University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary in Mundelein, Ill., in 1976.

Fr. Adducci was ordained to the priesthood on May 12, 1976, by John Cardinal Cody, archbishop of Chicago, and celebrated his first solemn Mass at St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Chicago on May 23 of the same year.

After ordination to priesthood, Fr. Adducci served as associate pastor at St. Ferdinand Parish on Barry Avenue and Holy Rosary Parish on Western Avenue, both in Chicago. Subsequently, he served as chaplain at St. Anne's Hospital, St. Mary of Nazareth Hospital and most recently at St. Joseph Hospital, retiring in 2016.

Rev. Dennis Zalecki, a classmate and pastor emeritus of St. Anastasia Parish in Waukegan, Ill., had known Fr. Adducci since their high school years at Quigley South. “He was a very good priest and friend, and humor was one of his outstanding characteristics.” According to Fr. Zalecki, although Fr. Adducci’s health had been fragile, he always maintained a sense of hopefulness.

Visitation hours will be on Thursday, October 4, 2018 from 3 to 9 p.m. and Friday, October 5, 2018, from 10 to 10:30 a.m. The funeral Mass will take place on Friday, October 5 following visitation at 10:30 a.m.

Rev. Marty Michniewicz will be the main celebrant and homilist of the funeral Mass.

All funeral services will be held at St. Alexander Parish, 7025 W. 126th Street, Palos Heights, Ill.
