Cardinal Cupich to Discuss Themes and Lessons in Martin Scorcese’s Silence

Conversation with Cardinal Cupich to follow Showing of Silence at Music Box Theatre, January 15

Chicago, IL (January 10, 2017) – Cardinal Blase J. Cupich will host a 30 minute discussion about the movie Silence after the 4:45 p.m. screening of the film on January 15, 2017, at the Music Box Theatre, 3733 North Southport Avenue in Chicago. The discussion will begin at approximately 7:30 p.m.

Silence is an adaptation of Shūsaku Endō's 1966 novel that tells the story of Jesuit missionaries who accompanied the Catholic Japanese population amidst their persecution in 17th century Japan. After the screening, Cardinal Cupich will offer his reflections on the main themes of the movie, including prayer, spiritual pride, and the meaning of martyrdom, and will answer questions from the audience.
