The Archdiocese of Chicago to Participate in Local Respect Life Events throughout January

Cardinal Blase J. Cupich will be a guest speaker at the March for Life Chicago Moving the Movement Tour Stop on Sunday, Jan. 17 at Carmel Catholic High School

Chicago, (Jan. 12, 2021) – The Archdiocese of Chicago will participate in local events in January commemorating the March for Life, an annual pro-life gathering in Washington, D.C., occurring on the anniversary of the 1973 Roe v. Wade court decision legalizing abortion.

Local activities will begin with Cardinal Blase J. Cupich, archbishop of Chicago, featured as a guest speaker at March for Life Chicago’s Moving the Movement Tour Stop, co-sponsored by the archdiocese and hosted by Carmel Catholic High School at 1 p.m., on Sunday, Jan. 17 at 1 Carmel Pkwy. in Mundelein. The event will also feature a diaper drive benefiting Aid for Women. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, March for Life Chicago organizers have taken their annual rally on the road for six outdoor, socially-distanced car rallies in four Midwestern states.

On Friday, Jan. 22, Auxiliary Bishop Kevin Birmingham will be the main celebrant for the archdiocese’s Mass for Life that will be livestreamed at noon from Holy Name Cathedral on the archdiocese’s YouTube channel (link to Mass https://youtu.be/GdEslPMbhhc).

“As Christians, our mission is to build a culture of life which defends, values and protects the sanctity of all human life at every stage of development from birth until natural death,” Cardinal Cupich said. “In creating a pro-life, pro-family society, we commit to help those women who are not only pregnant, but also those who are impoverished, castoff, ailing or dying. We support the common good by taking actions that protect life, particularly in times such as these and stand alongside our brothers and sisters in making our families and communities stronger, sustainable and more vibrant.”

The archdiocese’s Respect Life Ministry promotes the dignity and protection of human life through programs, education, pastoral care and advocacy. Programs focus on many topics, including protection of the unborn, euthanasia and assisted suicide.
