Archdiocese of Chicago adds 10 Names to its List of Clergy with Substantiated Allegations
Today, the Archdiocese of Chicago added 10 names to its public list of clergy with substantiated allegations of child sexual abuse. Four are priests of the Archdiocese of Chicago, two are deacons of the Archdiocese of Chicago, two are extern priests (from dioceses outside of the United States) and two are religious order priests. The list has previously contained only priests of the Archdiocese of Chicago who were alive when the first allegation against them was received and whose allegations were substantiated by the Archdiocese Independent Review Board or similar Archdiocesan process.
Cardinal Cupich has asked that the list be expanded to include all diocesan, extern and religious order priests and deacons with allegations of child sexual abuse that were substantiated by the Archdiocesan Independent Review Board or similar Archdiocesan process. In recent years, allegations against extern and religious order priests have been referred to their diocese or religious order, respectively, but the allegations against the two extern priests and two religious order priests added today were substantiated by the Archdiocese Independent Review Board in earlier decades (1999, 2003, 2003 and 2007, resp.)

While we are adding these names today based on determinations made in past years, we are not changing our current process for receiving and handling allegations and adding names. Cases involving deceased priests, after reporting to authorities, are not referred to the Independent Review Board because there is no issue of fitness for ministry or risk to children. Allegations against religious order and extern priests, after withdrawal of faculties and being reported to authorities, are referred to their religious order or home diocese, respectively.
