Chicago, IL (March 13, 2019) – Rev. William J. Lisowski, retired pastor of St. Ladislaus Parish on Roscoe Street in Chicago, passed away on March 7, 2019 at Holy Family Villa in Palos Park, Ill. He was 95 years old.

Born on August 29, 1923, in Chicago, Lisowski attended St. John of God School and Quigley Preparatory Seminary, both in Chicago. He graduated with a master’s degree from the University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary in Mundelein, Ill., in 1949.

Lisowski was ordained to the priesthood on May 3, 1950, by Samuel Cardinal Stritch, archbishop of Chicago, and celebrated his first solemn Mass at St. John of God Parish in Chicago on May 7 of the same year.

After ordination to priesthood, Lisowski served the archdiocese as assistant pastor at the following parishes: St. Mary Magdalene Parish on S. Marquette Avenue in Chicago, St. Blase Parish in Argo, Ill., Holy Innocents Parish on Armour Street in Chicago and St. Salomea Parish on Indiana Street in Chicago.

Afterward, he was pastor at St. Helen Parish on Augusta Boulevard in Chicago and at St. Ladislaus Parish on Roscoe Street in Chicago, where he retired in 1993.

Rev. Waldemar K. Stawiarski, pastor of SS. Cyril & Methodius Parish, had known Lisowski for the past 15 years. “He was a nice man, very devoted. He was loved by many people from many parishes.”

Visitation hours will be on Wednesday, March 13, 2019, from 8:30 to 10 a.m. The funeral Mass will take place the same day at 10 a.m. both at Holy Family Villa Chapel, 12220 S. Will Cook Road in Palos Park, Ill.

Bishop Andrew P. Wypych will be the main celebrant while Stawiarski will be the homilist. Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Justice, Ill.
