Parishes Across the Archdiocese of Chicago to Celebrate Good Friday with Living Stations of the Cross

Via Crucis to be held on Friday, April 19

Chicago, IL (April 17, 2019) – Good Friday, April 19, marks the day Catholics remember Christ’s suffering and death with special Stations of the Cross devotions, including outdoor processions of the living stations and veneration of the cross or Via Crucis.

The following list represents a sample of Via Crucis being celebrated throughout the Archdiocese of Chicago.

SANTA MARIA DEL POPOLO PARISH (North Suburbs)

6 p.m.

The Via Crucis at Santa Maria del Popolo, 116 N. Lake Street in Mundelein, will take place within the Church at 6 p.m.

MOST BLESSED TRINITY PARISH; IMMACULATE CONCEPTION SITE (North Suburbs)

11 a.m.

The Via Crucis at Immaculate Conception, 508 Grand Avenue in Waukegan, will begin at 11 a.m. and process through the surrounding neighborhood. Veneration of the Cross will take place at 6:30 p.m.

ST. JEROME PARISH (Northside)

12 p.m.

The Via Crucis at St. Jerome Parish, 1709 W. Lunt Avenue in Chicago, will begin at 12 p.m. and process around the neighborhood.

OUR LADY OF LOURDES PARISH (Northside)

10 a.m.

The Via Crucis will begin at Chase Park, corner of Ashland Ave. and Leland Ave., at 10 a.m. and process to Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, 4640 N. Ashland in Chicago. The Seven Last Words of Christ will be celebrated immediately after arrival to the parish. The Veneration of the Cross will be held at 7:30 p.m.

LITTLE VILLAGE NEIGHBORHOOD VIA CRUCIS (Westside)

9 a.m.

The Via Crucis will begin on W. 26th St. and S. Keeler Ave. in Chicago and head east along 26th Street until arriving at Washtenaw Park, 2521 S. Washtenaw Ave. in Chicago. Participating parishes include:  Epiphany, Good Shepherd, St. Agnes of Bohemia, Our Lady of Tepeyac, Assumption and St. Roman.

MARY, QUEEN OF HEAVEN / OUR LADY OF THE MOUNT IN CICERO (West Suburbs)

11 a.m.

The Via Crucis will begin at Mary, Queen of Heaven Parish, 5300 24th St. in Cicero, at 11 a.m. and process to Our Lady of the Mount Parish, 2414 S. 61st Ave. in Cicero. Participating parishes include: Mary, Queen of Heaven and Our Lady of Mount.

OUR LADY OF CHARITY IN CICERO (West Suburbs)

12 p.m.

The Via Crucis will begin at noon at Our Lady of Charity Parish, 3600 S. 57th Ct., in Cicero.

ST. BARBARA PARISH (Southside)

3 p.m.

The Stations of the Cross will take place within the church, 2859 S. Throop St. in Chicago, at 3 p.m. Veneration of the Cross will take place at 7 p.m.

BRIGHTON PARK NEIGHBORHOOD VIA CRUCIS (Southside)

11 a.m.

The Via Crucis will begin at Our Lady of Fatima Parish, 2751 W. 38th Pl. in Chicago, at 11 a.m. and will process to Immaculate Conception Parish, 2745 W. 44th St. in Chicago. Participating parishes include: Our Lady of Fatima, St. Pancratius, Five Holy Martyrs and Immaculate Conception.

ST. GALL PARISH (Southside)

1:30 p.m.

The Via Crucis will begin at St. Gall Parish, 5511 S. Sawyer Ave. in Chicago at 1:30 p.m. and process to Senka Park, 55th St. and St. Louis Ave.

MCKINLEY PARK NEIGHBORHOOD VIA CRUCIS (Southside)

9 a.m.

The Via Crucis will begin at Blessed Sacrament Parish, 3528 S. Hermitage Ave. in Chicago and process to Ss. Peter and Paul Parish, 3745 S. Paulina St. (Bilingual). Veneration of the Cross will be held at Ss. Peter and Paul Parish at 7 p.m. Participating parishes include: Blessed Sacrament and Ss. Peter and Paul.

PILSEN NEIGHBORHOOD VIA CRUCIS (Southside)

9 a.m.

The Via Crucis will begin at Providence of God Church, 717 West 18th Street in Chicago, at 9 a.m. Participants will process along 18th St. to Harrison Park, 18th St. and Wood St. in Chicago, and complete the journey at St. Adalbert Church, 1650 West 17th St. in Chicago, for a closing prayer. The Seven Last Words will be held at Providence of God Church at 3 p.m. Participating churches include: Providence of God, St. Procopius and St. Adalbert.

ST. DONATUS PARISH (South Suburbs)

2 p.m.

The Via Crucis at St. Donatus Parish, 1939 Union Street in Blue Island, will begin at 2 p.m. and process around the parish. The Seven Last Words of Christ will be celebrated at 3:30 p.m. and the Veneration of the Cross will be held at 7 p.m.

ST. BEDE THE VENERABLE PARISH (Southwest Side)

11 a.m.

The Via Crucis at St. Bede the Venerable Parish, 8200 S Kostner Ave. in Chicago, will begin at 11 a.m. and process around the neighborhood.

ST. NICHOLAS OF TOLENTINE PARISH (Southwest Side)

4 p.m.

The Via Crucis of St. Nicholas of Tolentine Parish, 6200 S. Lawndale Avenue in Chicago, will begin 4 p.m. and process around the parish.

ST. MICHAEL PARISH (Southwest Suburbs)

11 a.m.

The Via Crucis of St. Michael Parish (Bi-lingual), 14327 Highland Avenue in Orland Park, will begin at 11 a.m. and process around the parish. Veneration of the Cross will take place at 12:30 p.m.
