St. Agnes of Bohemia Parish to Hold a Street Mass to Bring Peace and the Joy of the Gospel to Chicago’s Little Village Neighborhood

Chicago, IL (July 14, 2017) – In an effort to bring the Gospel and its message of peace and hope to the streets of the Little Village neighborhood, St. Agnes of Bohemia Catholic Church, located at 2651 S. Central Park Ave. in Chicago, will hold a street mass at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 18, on Spaulding Avenue between 27th and 28th streets.

“It’s also an opportunity for us to heed Pope Francis’ call and bring the Joy of the Gospel to people who rarely participate in hearing it,” said Fr. Don Nevins, Pastor of St. Agnes of Bohemia Parish. “In addition we will invite people to participate more fully in their baptisimal call to practice the gift of faith we have received, called evangelization.”

Dozens of parish volunteers will go door to door the day before with fliers inviting neighbors to participate in the outdoor street Mass. During these visits, volunteers typically encounter people new to the neighborhood as well as older neighbors who may not be aware of the parish’s services.

The outdoor Mass will be celebrated in the middle of the street with the streets on either end temporarily blocked from the passage of cars. Participants are invited to bring their own folding chairs.
