Archdiocese of Chicago Debuts Young Adult Scripture Series with a Discussion about the Compatibility of Religion and Science
Chicago, IL (September 13, 2017) – Six Weeks with the Word of God, a weekly scripture-based gathering for young Catholics hosted by the Archdiocese of Chicago, will kick-off on Monday, September 18 at Nacional 27, 325 West Huron. Fr. John Kartje, Rector/President at the University of Saint Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary, will discuss “Making the Leap of Faith: A Talk on Science and the Bible by an Astrophysicist Priest,” reflecting on the intersection of faith and science and how they co-exist.
After the successful revitalization of this summer’s Theology on Tap young adult program, the Archdiocese of Chicago developed Six Weeks with the Word of God to help young adults grow in their faith, apply Scripture to daily living and learn more about the core of Catholicism in a casual environment.
“Six Weeks with the Word of God is wonderful way to draw young people to a peer community to discuss their faith and spiritual growth,” said Cardinal Blase J. Cupich, Archbishop of Chicago. “As part of renewing our Church, we are creating opportunities for young adults to explore their faith through lively discussions they can apply to their daily lives.”
Fr. Kartje’s discussion will provide young Catholics with approaches to exploring the Bible in a more spiritually meaningful way that demonstrates how it is relevant to every age and situation. He will also address the myth of conflict between science and religion and emphasize the harmony between the two convictions. Fr. Kartje holds a Ph.D. in Astrophysics from the University of Chicago and an S.T.L./S.T.D. in Biblical Theology from the Catholic University of America. In addition to being an administrator at the University of Saint Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary, he is also an Assistant Professor in its Department of Biblical Studies and Homiletics.
