Eleventh Annual “Seeking Posada” for Immigration Reform
Chicago, IL (December 14, 2016) – The eleventh annual Posada pilgrimage for immigration reform, sponsored by the Office of Human Dignity and Solidarity of the Archdiocese of Chicago, will take place on Friday, December 16, beginning at 7 a.m., outside the United States Center for Immigration Services in downtown Chicago. The one mile journey symbolizes Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem. This event encourages members of the Chicago community to walk and pray in solidarity with immigrants who are seeking shelter, just as Mary and Joseph sought a place to stay, otherwise known as “Posada.”
“We will continue to walk with all who, given our broken immigration system, live in the shadows. We will advocate for them as well as refugees seeking a better life for their families,” said Cardinal Blase J. Cupich. “The U.S. Catholic bishops and the Archdiocese of Chicago are saying loudly and clearly to all immigrants and refugees: ‘We stand with you!’”
The pilgrimage will include meaningful stops outside the Metropolitan Correctional Center, DePaul University, Federal Plaza and St. Peter's in the Loop, where the event will conclude with a 9 a.m. celebration. Each stop will include special prayers and reflection.
