Very Rev. Esequiel Sanchez, Rector of the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Des Plaines and former Pastor of St. Bede the Venerable Parish, got to know Fr. Behnke while he was a resident of the Parish. He reflected, “Fr. Behnke was a priest that was dearly loved by the people of St. Bede the Venerable and other assignments he has served in. He was a man who deeply loved the liturgy, both the Extraordinary Form of the Mass and the Novus Ordo. He was a deep thinker, principled and a good friend.”

Fr. Edward M. Mikolajczyk, Pastor of Queen of Martyrs Parish in Evergreen Park, was classmates with Fr. Behnke. He said, “Fr. Behnke did a lot of good work in the African American community. He had a wonderful singing voice and a great love of music.” Fr. Mikolajczyk continued, “He truly had a love for the people of the parishes he served. He loved the liturgy and always really enjoyed celebrating Mass.”
